Job Description: Medical Assistant/Technician
Reports to: Tech Supervisor/Doctors/Practice Admin
The Ophthalmic Technician assists in providing excellent quality patient care by performing
multiple tasks in coordination with the patient eye examination such as concise medical
histories, performing various diagnostic tests, documenting in the patient's electronic chart
and assisting the physicians in the clinic.
•Preliminary exam including, but not limited to: chief complaint, visual acuity, ocular history,
surgical history, past medical history, social history, family history, chair skills - EOM, CVF, pupils,
Auto-Refraction, Refraction, Manual/Auto Lensometer, IOP, dilation.
•Ancillary Testing: VF, Topography, Biometry, OCT, Pachymetry, External and Fundus
• In-Office procedures: set-up, assist, and clean-up of minor surgeries or procedures: SLT, YAG,
chalazions, crosslinking, lipiflows.
Other: Triage knowledge, routine maintenance of equipment, minor housekeeping/cleaning of
exam rooms, inventory/stocking supplies, schedule, call, and interact with patients regarding
their appointments. Experience with EMA/Mod Med a plus.
